My Many Rides

I've got a thing for cars I guess. Can't seem to hold on to 'em for very long though!
Here are some of my past rides for you to check out. Sorry about the quality of these photos--I am much better at this kind of thing now.

RIDE#1: 1966 FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE
YEARS OWNED: 1985-1991
PURCHASE PRICE: $1700

First car I ever bought with my own moolah. A low-mileage green rustbucket when I got it. Used as a training aid for some bodyshop guys in Berkley, MI from '85 to '86. Came out pretty good even though 90% of the original metal was replaced. Drove this out to L.A. in 1989. Too nice of a car to leave parked on the street. Sold it for $8500 to a guy who shipped it to England! Probably disintegrated on the trip over. Miss her a bunch still.

RIDE#2: 1984 VOLKSWAGEN RABBIT GTI
YEARS OWNED: 1990-1992
PURCHASE PRICE: $3000

My version of an economy car to scoot around LA in. Had a lot of fun tossing her around even though it took many frequent and expensive trips to Hans' Autowerks to fix the stuff that was busted on her. Took the back seat out and had a quick little grocery hauler. Finally got sick of all the repairs and dumped her. Miss this one too.

RIDE#3: 1977 TRIUMPH SPITFIRE
YEARS OWNED: 1990-1991
PURCHASE PRICE: $2300?

No idea what I was thinking. Guess I missed having a convertible. This heap conked out going uphill around a blind corner and I almost got killed. Think I only had this for the summer. Remember being thrilled to find somebody to take it off my hands.

RIDE#4: 1986 FORD MUSTANG GT
YEARS OWNED: 1992-1993
PURCHASE PRICE: $3000

Always seem to go back to the V8s. Don't know why I thought this would be more reliable than the Rabbit! Had to replace the differential ($750) two weeks after I bought it. My most expensive auto repair to date. Actually ran pretty well and wasn't much trouble, but it had been thouroughly thrashed before I got it. Wanted a new car so I traded it in for a...

RIDE#5: 1993 HONDA CIVIC VX
YEARS OWNED: 1993-1995
PURCHASE PRICE: $12000

My first new car. Just wanted something cheap and trustworthy. Would still be driving it if I hadn't got rear-ended on the 101 in 1995. The car did great, but the spare time came unmounted and hit me in the head! Didn't feel safe after I watched the bodyshop stretch it back out on a rack! By this point, I needed a truck anyway, so...

RIDE#6: 1995 FORD F150
YEARS OWNED: 1995-2001
PURCHASE PRICE: $14100

Best car (truck) I ever owned. Bought it when it was six months old and used it for film work. Took this absolutely everywhere. Never had any problems other than an oil leak and a busted windshield. Got bored with it being so reliable so I sold it to my partner Andy at work who just had totalled his Sentra.

RIDE#7: 1970 FORD TORINO 500
YEARS OWNED: 2000-2001
PURCHASE PRICE: $900

Yikes! Actually not a bad car either, but totally hopeless which is probably why I bought it. Had a 351 and ran pretty well, but was way beyond salvaging. The city kept putting notices on it thinking it was abandoned!

RIDE#8: 1968 MERCURY COUGAR XR7
YEARS OWNED: 2001-2002
PURCHASE PRICE: $2000

Good ole' Sybil. Have another page dedicated to her elsewhere on this site. A real nice ride.

RIDE#9: ?????

I learned to drive in one of these. Thanks, dad. I almost forgive you.
